Report: Carter focused on returning to Patriots

The Boston Herald reported Friday that defensive end Andre Carter is so intent on returning to the Patriots that he's "turned down interest in competing teams" in the hopes of re-signing with New England.

Carter, 33, tore a quad muscle during the Pats' victory in Denver in Week 15 and missed the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs. The Herald reports Carter is ahead of schedule in his rehab and thinks he'll be ready for the start of the 2012 regular season, though the Pats don't necessarily agree.

Carter, who signed a one-year contract worth 2.75 million as a free agent last year, is seeking a three- or four-year deal with a higher salary. The Patriots, according to the Herald, "are seemingly more interested in paying Carter a salary similar to last year's".
