Patriots sign Dennard to 4-year deal

Seventh-round draft pick DB Alfonzo Dennard and the Patriots have agreed to a four-year deal.

The news was first reported by Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe.

Dennard has been in the news recently as he is now dealing with the after-effects of allegedly punched a police officer in the face just days before the draft. Yesterday he waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will be arraigned on May 30 in Lancaster County, Neb. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.

Dennard was a first-team All-Big Ten cornerback as a senior at Nebraska. He was expected to be taken significantly higher in the draft before his arrest.

Dennard is the third Patriots draft pick to sign, joining DB Tavon Wilson (second round) and WR Jeremy Ebert (seventh round).
