Harbaugh says Moss is Niners best receiver

Here's a fun riddle: What's 35 years old and has a history of being a less-than-exemplary teammate? San Francisco's top wideout, according to Jim Harbaugh.

Yup, the 49ers coach has told Rich Gannon of SiriusXM NFL Radio that Randy Moss is his "best receiver right now."

Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News has a few more tidbits from Gannon that give us a clearer picture of what Harbaugh is expecting from Moss in San Francisco.

At the end of the meeting, Randy turned to Jim Harbaugh and said, Coach, what do you want me to do, what can I do for you? Gannon said, describing a meeting Harbaugh and Moss had in March, before Moss signed.

And Jim looked at him and said, For starters Id like you to sit in the front row of my meetings.

He said by doing that its brought guys like Crabtree, whod hang out in the back, and some of these other young guys, now theyre sitting up front with Randy Moss. They dont have the hoodies on anymore. Theyre alert. Theyre paying attention. Randys taking notes. Every meeting that coach has had, Randy Moss has been sitting in the front row.

Moss has been a non-factor in the NFL since being traded away by the Patriots two seasons ago. After spending a year away from football last year, Moss began a campaign to come back -- highlighted by a string of rambling video chats with fans -- and was eventually signed by the Niners in mid-March.
