Gronkowski (arm) placed on injured reserve

FOXBORO -- Rob Gronkowski's season was over when broke his left forearm against the Texans in New England's Divisional Round win last Sunday. The Patriots officially ended Gronkowski's year Thursday.

According to the Patriots' practice report, Gronkowski was placed on injured reserve with a broken left forearm. The move opens up one spot on the active 53-man roster.

Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran reported on Tuesday that the fracture Gronkowski suffered was a different fracture than the one he suffered on Nov. 18 while blocking for an extra point in New England's Week 11 win over the Colts.

Tight end Daniel Fells was inactive against the Texans on Sunday, leaving the Patriots with two active tight ends, Aaron Hernandez and Michael Hoomanawanui.
