Is it such a bad thing for a rookie wide receiver to be compared favorably to Wes Welker?
Cole Beasley isn't thrilled about it.
"I do have similarities with him but I feel like I can play a little bit more outside than Welker does, as well as inside, the kid Cowboy said Tuesday on Dallas station 105.3 The Fan.
The most obvious likeness is size: Beasley is 5-8, 182-pounds. There's also the Cinderella storyline in that he went undrafted.
Considering how Beasley plays in the slot, is fast as hell, and knows how to exploit holes in a defense, the comparison only makes sense.
Or, to a guy trying to assert his own NFL identity, it's annoying.
I get tired of it a little bit because I feel like I have a little bit more speed than Wes Welker does. Hes got a little bigger frame than me but I feel like Ive got a little more versatility to my game than he does."

Beasley insists he's a fan of Welker, calling the Patriot "a great player" and "one of the best in the game." Still, the SMU product is eager to set himself apart.
