Brady: Welker's a quarterback's dream

FOXBORO -- No Patriot appreciates Wes Welker more than his quarterback.
Tom Brady was given yet another opportunity to talk about why on Wednesday.
Welker's 92 catches currently leads the league. He needs just eight more to become the first player in NFL history with five 100 catch seasons.
How do you even wrap your head around how consistently productive he is every single Sunday?"Its not only Sunday; its Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for him, too," Brady said. "I think thats the exceptional part: How he takes care of himself. Wes loves to play football. Theres nothing more important in Wess life than being a football player and thinking about football and making the big play and running the right route and getting open when its most important."
Welker's work really came into focus this week against the Dolphins.
With Rob Gronkowski recovering from a broken forearm, Julian Edelman leaving the Miami game because of a broken foot and Brandon Lloyd getting just one ball, most of Brady's targets were for Welker.
The slot receiver finished with 12 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.
But more importantly, he provided Brady with a failsafe. Even though opponents know Welker is there, and they might even know that's who the ball is going to, there isn't much that can be done about it.
That's not the kind of thing Brady takes for granted -- not even after six seasons together.
"That's what quarterbacks dream about too: Having receivers that do that. And Wes is everything you look for in his ability, not only when he catches the ball to be an important part of the play, but also on plays when other guys are supposed to get the ball. He busts his butt harder than anybody to make sure hes doing his job to clear out on a certain route or to take some coverage with him so another guy can get the ball.
"I think thats what makes Wes really special is his selflessness as a player. But the ball always seems to find a way to him."
