Belichick cool on Wednesday night fight

FOXBORO -- Wednesday's night training camp scuffle may have gotten a reaction from the stadium crowd, but Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn't really blink.
"Football is competitive," he said the next morning. "We're in a competitive camp. I think some of those things are just part of football."
He may not be so cool if Brandon Spikes comes out worse for wear.
When the normally docile Nate Solder unleashed a little bit of Colorado-born hell on Spikes, the linebacker limped off to the locker room. He reemerged wearing a brace on his surgically repaired knee.
Belichick was asked if fights can reveal strengths in a team, like leadership. He replied with a sardonic smile.
"I don't know about all that. I don't know if fights can crystallize the team. Not any that I can think of."
With a pro coaching career that dates back to the 1970s, Belichick has seen a few scraps. Many have been "a lot worse." But per usual, he stayed tight-lipped about the details. The only anecdote Belichick would share sounded more like advice.
"The thing I try to do is stay out of the way and not get hit. That's happened more than once. I'm the last one to try to break up something like that."
