All quiet on veteran RB front

If the Patriots liked what they saw from Ryan Grant's April appearance, they haven't told him lately. The team has had no contact with him since the NFL Draft, according to his agent.

Grant hit New England as one of three free agent veteran running backs to visit April 20 and 21. The trio's presence fit expectations, as BenJarvus Green-Ellis' March departure left a significant hole in New England's roster. Suddenly, Danny Woodhead -- a Patriot for just two seasons -- was left as senior vet at the position.

Woodhead will do what he does on third down, catch a few balls out of the backfield, and get work split out wide. Stevan Ridley will likely handle the rest. But with Shane Vereen an unknown and the team bringing in zero rookie 'backs, depth is needed.

The time to revisit free agents is now, as the draft dust is settling. Other teams, like Oakland, will be interested in Grant if Green Bay doesn't bring him back. But that fact hasn't yet seemed to arouse any urgency in the Patriots.

Efforts to reach Hightower's and Addai's representation were unsuccessful.
