Damon wanted to return to Red Sox

Would you want Johnny Damon back in Boston?

The former Red Sox center fielder wanted to make a return to the Red Sox late in the 2012 season, but it wasn't in the cards.

Damon was invited to return to Fenway Park for the 2004 championship reunion last season, but opted not to attend. He said he would have attended if the Red Sox put him on their active roster.

They really wanted me up there for the eight-year anniversary, said Damon. I was like, Eight years sounds weird. If I can play, suit me up. Im still in shape. Ill be there. But they couldnt adjust the roster and I didnt go up. It would have been classic.

If Damon doesn't sign with a team before Spring Training, he has said he will "enjoy life" and retire.
