One day after expressing his anger at Zdeno Chara, and stating that he feels the hit Chara delivered was deliberate, Max Pacioretty issued a statement saying he doesn't want Montreal police to prosecute the Bruins defenseman."I sincerely appreciate all of thesupport that I have received since my injury," said Pacioretty, who suffered a severe concussion and a non-displaced fracture of the fourth vertebrae when he was checked into the stanchion between the benches at the Bell Centre by Chara on Tuesday night."I was disappointed that the NHL did not suspend Zdeno Chara."However, I have no desire for him to be prosecuted legally. I feel thatthe incident, as ugly as it was, was part of a hockey game."I understand that this is not mydecision. I have respect and admiration for the authorities in Quebec.I simply wanted to make my opinion clear."
Montreal police started a criminal investigation Thursday, saying they were acting on arequest by Quebec's director of criminal and penal prosecutions, LouisDionne. After evidence is collected, it will be determined if there aregrounds for prosecution, they said.
