WILMINGTON -- Defenseman Shane Hnidy was acquired to give the Bruins some depth on the blue line, but a bad shoulder has had him on the injured-reserve list since the day they got him.
Hnidy officially comes off I.R. on Tuesday, and, if cleared by team doctors, will be available for the rest of the season.
"He looks OK to me, and I think it's a matter of making sure that he's cleared by everybody," said coach Claude Julien. "We'll probably see him at some point, whether it's tomorrow, or some of the remaining games.
"We brought him in to gives us some depth. He hasn't played all year, and if we want him to be a depth player, then at some point he's going to have to play."
Hnidy said after Monday's practice that he feels ready to go, and in fact, may not have even needed to wait this long, had it not been for the league's injured-reserve timetable.
"It's a doctor's thing," said Hnidy. "If it was up to me, I was ready a while ago, but it was probably best to wait."
