BOSTON -- The first scrimmage of the season for the Bruins alsobrought the first few ice bags of camp as Zdeno Chara left the ice after taking a shotclearing attempt in the inside oftheleft knee area. The incident happened in the neutral zone midway through Monday's Group Bscrimmage on the TD Garden ice, and the Bs captain immediately yelped out in pain after his kneeabsorbed the brunt of thepuck. Chara finished the shift favoring his left leg noticeably and then walked right down the runway toward the Bs dressing room.

Chara never returned to the scrimmage and was done for the day after leaving the ice in clear pain. It appeared to be one of the typical bumps and bruises in training camp, and B'scoach Claude Juliencalled it a "contusion" of the left legafter the conclusion of Monday's practice sessions."He just got a shot on theinside of the leg right there, so rightit's a contusion and we're going to evaluate it as we go along here," said Julien. "This istraining camp. If he needs an extra day then we'llgive him an extra day, and ifhe'sokay tomorrow then we'll let him go."We'll see. It's a day-to-day bruise from a shot on the inside of the leg."Joe Haggerty can be reached at jhaggerty@comcastsportsnet.com. Follow Joe on Twitter at http:twitter.comHackswithHaggs
