PITTSBURGHThe Bruins just keep on making statements about how good they can be.
The Bs went into a road against the Pittsburgh Penguins looking to measure themselves after taking 13 wins in 14 games, and they tossed down another dominant performance in a 3-1 victory over the Pens at CONSOL Energy Center.
The Bruins still trail the Penguins by a point in the Eastern Conference standings, but it was a large statement to the rest of the conference and league about the true Beast in the East.
The Bruins battled through the first two periods with a game Penguins unit, and the difference again in this game was their depth. Gregory Campbell opened up the scoring in the second period from a nice Daniel Paille feed from behind the net, and Rich Peverley set Benoit Pouliot up for a glove-side one-timer that handed Boston a two-goal lead.
Tyler Seguin added a one-timer on the power play for his team-leading 13th goal of the season in the opening two minutes of the third period to give Boston their necessary insurance tally. It was a team-wide victory, however, as the Bruins killed off a pair of 5-on-3 advantages for the Penguins and Tim Thomas was brilliant while making tough stops within his 26 saves for the evening.
Given good health and a high dose of confidence, there doesnt appear to be many weaknesses in the Bruins game right now. Matt Cooke managed a goal late midway through the third period, but that was it for Pittsburgh.
