Bruins blown away by Canes, 3-0

BOSTON -- The Bruins had 47 shots on goal Thursday, but Cam Ward stopped all of them, leading the Hurricanes to a 3-0 win over the B's at the TD Garden.

The Bruins held a 22-8 shot advantage after the first period, but still couldn't find the back of the net before the Hurricanes did.

Carolina captain Eric Staal gave his team a 1-0 lead with 8:09 left in the first period, after a Johnny Boychuk injury in his own corner allowed Jiri Tlusty to throw a loose puck out front to Staal, who then put home the one-timer.

Boychuk returned to the game in the second period, but it was another defensive mishap that led to another Carolina goal.

With 3:19 left in the second period, Brandon Sutter put on an aggressive forecheck that Andrew Ference and Adam McQuaid just didn't quite seem ready for. Sutter stole the puck in Boston's high slot, put a shot on net, and Tuomo Ruutu cleaned up the garbage out front to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead after two periods.

Sutter made it 3-0, just three minutes into the third period, when he sniped the top-right corner from the slot after Tuukka Rask's clearing attempt up the boards was turned over. Sutter received a pass from the half-wall and put it away.
