Shane Victorino and Jonny Gomes of the World Series champion Red Sox dropped by "Conan" on Tuesday night to talk about the Series victory and the team's improbable worst to first turnaround with Conan O'Brien, who is Brookline born and raised and a big Sox fan.
Of course, the beards were a topic of discussion, with O'Brien telling Gomes, as the outfielder played with his now-famous whiskers, that Gomes was "tasting food from three days ago" by putting his beard in his mouth.
They talked about the closeness of the team that developed over the season and how riding in the duck boats for another championship parade became the overriding goal. Victorino told Conan that pitcher Jake Peavy bought the boat he rode on in the parade.
That purchase, of course, was Gomes' idea after he saw a video of Peavy's expansive property in Alabama and how Peavy should "ship that pig" down there after he rode in it.
Also, the players recalled how the Boston Marathon bombings brought the Red Sox and the city together. "If everyone in Boston could get a ring, they deserve one, too," Gomes said.
