Shane Victorino began a rehab assignment with Single-A Lowell Spinners on Thursday night.
The outfielder went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts.
After the game Victorino spoke about getting back on the field with the Major League club.
"When I come back, I just want to be a piece of the puzzle," said Victorino. "I'm not trying to go out there and push myself and beer the savior.
"I'm just going to go out there and give one hundred percent and leave it all on the field. Hopefully I can come and help and bring more wins and make the team better."
The plan is for Victorino to play three more rehab games as he looks to come back from a hamstring strain and back stiffness.
