Talking Points: Sox don't help Rodriguez defensively

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Ryan Goins

Going cranked a three-run homer over everything in left in the fourth and added a two-run double in the seventh to give himself a five RBI afternoon.

HONORABLE MENTION: Russell Martin

The Toronto catcher scored three runs, reached base four times with a walk and three hits and knocked in two more.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Eduardo Rodriguez

His pitching line -- nine runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings -- wasn't quite indicative of his day. After all, Rodriguez wasn't given much help defensively. But he was guilty of falling behind more often and was facing a much better lineup than his first three starts.

TURNING POINT: When Chris Colabello hit a two-out pop-up to second in the fifth that Dustin Pedroia lost in the sun, it led to four runs in the inning.

BY THE NUMBERS: After giving up one run in his first three starts combined, Rodriguez twice gave up more than that in a single inning Sunday - six in the fourth and three in the fifth.
