Talking Points: Rodriguez faces just 13 Angels hitters

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: David Freese

Freese completely crushed a pitch from Noe Ramirez for a three-run homer in the fourth. The ball landed on the center field berm and had to have been hit about 450 feet.

HONORABLE MENTION: Hector Santiago

Santiago wasn't very efficient -- 114 pitches for just five innings - but he allowed just one run and did register a career-high 10 strikeouts while picking up his seventh win of the season.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Eduardo Rodriguez

It's sometimes all-or-nothing for the rookie lefty and Monday, it was nothing. He faced just 13 hitters, with nine reaching base and seven coming around to score. Rodriguez didn't help himself by issuing three walks.

TURNING POINT: Given how little the Red Sox have been hitting, the two-run homer by Kole Calhoun in the second, which made the score 6-0, essentially put the game out of reach.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Red Sox run in the fourth was their first since a week ago Sunday and was the first RBI for Mike Napoli this month.
