Talking Points: Rodriguez brilliant once again

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Steve Pearce

Pearce doubled to start the seventh and after moving over to third on a single, scored the only run of the game on a wild pitch.

HONORABLE MENTION: Eduardo Rodriguez

Rodriguez didn't factor in the decision, but he was brilliant once again, tossing six shutout innings while striking out seven. In three starts, he's allowed a total of one run.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Matt Barnes

When Rodriguez ran his pitch count to 102 after six innings, the Sox went to the bullpen and that's where trouble started. Barnes quickly allowed a double and single, and with runners at the corners, his wild pitch with Ryan Flaherty at the plate, his wild pitch enabled the only run of the game to score.

TURNING POINT: In the eighth inning, the Sox put the first two men on, but couldn't produce a run.

BY THE NUMBERS: Rodriguez became just the fourth pitcher in baseball history to begin his career with three starts of at least six innings and no more than three hits in any.
