Talking Points: Orioles 18, Red Sox 7

Baltimore -- Here are Sean McAdam's talking points from the Red Sox 18-7 loss to the Orioles.

STAR OF THE GAME: Delmon Young

Young reached on an error and scored the first Baltimore run in the second, then added a run-scoring single in the third, a two-run single in the fourth and a two-run double in the seventh as the Orioles kept piling on.

HONORABLE MENTION: Bud Norris

Norris came into the game with a 17.42 ERA but you wouldn't know it from the way he pitched against the Red Sox. Backed by an early lead, Norris threw strikes and the Red Sox couldn't do much at the plate, blanked over the first six innings before stirring awake with three runs off him in the seventh.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Wade Miley

For the second time in four starts this month, Miley couldn't get through the third inning. He was battered around for seven runs on five hits, plus had two four-pitch walks, one with the bases loaded.

TURNING POINT: The Red Sox were already down 3-0 in the third when Mookie Betts got himself twisted the wrong way in pursuit of a flyball from Chris Davis. He couldn't catch up to the mistake and it resulted in a two-run double, making it 5-0.

BY THE NUMBERS: In their just completed six-game road trip, the Red Sox scored one or no runs three times.
