Talking Points: Miley delivers another quality start

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Xander Bogaerts

With one well-timed swing, Bogaerts helped his team and his All-Star chances. In the seventh inning with the bases loaded and the Red Sox trailing by two, Bogaerts drilled a sharp single just to right of second base, clearing the bases and putting the Sox up to stay.

HONORABLE MENTION: Wade Miley

Miley didn't factor in the decision, but he delivered a quality start, allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Miley is second on the team with nine quality starts.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Carter Capps

Capps -- who has attracted attention for his unorthodox delivery -- fell behind Bogaerts, then gave up a game-winning three-run single.

TURNING POINT: In the seventh inning, with one out and two on, Miami third baseman Miguel Rojas botched a hard-hit grounder, allowing the Red Sox to load the bases and setting the stage for Bogaerts' heroics.

BY THE NUMBERS: Travis Shaw, who entered the game 0-for-9 in his brief big league career, collected three straight hits -- all singles.
