Talking Points: Athletics 9, Red Sox 2

STAR OF THE GAME: Josh Reddick

The former Red Sox outfielder collected four hits and knocked in three runs as part of the A's 12-hit attack. Reddick singled home Marcus Semien with the game's first run, homered to lead off the third, added his third hit in the sixth and singled home the final run in the eighth.

HONORABLE MENTION: Drew Pomeranz

Pomeranz got of plenty of support early, then threw strikes and worked through the Red Sox order, limiting them to just one hit over the first five innings, retiring 13 in a row during one stretch.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Justin Masterson

Masterson, coming off a brutal start at home last Wednesday, didn't get any better in the intervening six days. He was behind 3-0 after five batters, trailed 4-0 after two innings and was gone before he could a second out in the third inning.

TURNING POINT: Reddick's leadoff homer in the third -- making it 5-0 Oakland --put an end to any comeback hopes the Red Sox may have harbored. Masterson was out of the game two batters later.

BY THE NUMBERS: The game marked the fourth time this season that a Red Sox starter failed to get out of the third inning.
