Shaughnessy: Pedro made Red Sox ‘way more interesting'

Former Red Sox ace Pedro Martinez will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday alongside a class that includes Randy Johnson and John Smoltz.

Looking back at Pedro's time with the Boston Red Sox, Dan Shaughnessy believes his arrival from the Montreal Expos in 1997 sparked a culture change for the franchise.

"It certainly was a culture change at Fenway Park. At that time there was a large Dominican population in Jamaica Plain and Lawrence and the games were festivals," said Shaughnessy. "It was like a party every time Pedro took the mound. Then you had this amazing performance on top of that. It made the Red Sox way more interesting as they got into the new century."
