Will Middlebrooks is on the road back from an broken finger that has sidelined him since May 10.

With Xander Bogaerts now at third base, what's next for the 25-year-old?

"Middlebrooks needs to start playing outfield," said Dan Shaughnessy. "He's an athlete, he can do that. The infield is closed off to him, they will either trade him or make him an outfielder."

Lou Merloni agreed with Shaughnessy, saying the move would be mutually beneficial for the player and team.

"What's the one thing this organization does not have?" asked Merloni. "Outfield with power.  Will Middlebrooks, let's stop making it sound like the guy is a gold glove third baseman and has to play third… If they're really going to fall out of this thing, I want to see him in left field every single day."
