Saltalamacchia: 'Hope the Sox go 0-162 . . . NOT'

Uh, oh. Here we go again.

Here was Jarrod Saltalamacchia on Thursday, talking about his former Red Sox team:

"I hope they go 0-162. Now they're all sleazeballs."

That's exactly what Ian Kinsler, now of the Tigers, said of his old Rangers team (and, in particular, their GM Jon Daniels). Remember? And Kinsler has spent every waking minute since trying to backtrack from the comments.

Which is why Saltalamacchia -- who signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Marlins in the offseason -- was smiling when he said it. It was joke.

The truth? Salty says he remains close to many of the Red Sox players and, while he's disappointed the Sox didn't make more of an offer to retain him, he's happy about the way things worked out.
