The Red Sox are among many teams who have scouted free agent right-handed reliever Ryan Madson, according to a tweet from FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
#RedSox among many teams that have scouted Ryan Madson recently. Last pitched in ’11. Had Tommy John surgery in ’12, various setbacks in ’13— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 12, 2013
Madson, 33, hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2011. He had Tommy John surgery in 2012 and missed all of last season after numerous setbacks in his recovery.
He pitched for the Phillies from 2003-2011 as a set-up man and closer. His final season in Philadelphia, as a closer in 2011, he had 32 saves and an ERA of 2.37. He has since signed with the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim but never pitched for them.
