Who says it's impossible to make any money right out of college these days?

According to Baseball America's Jim Callis, the Red Sox have signed No. 1 pick Deven Marrero, a middle infielder from Arizona State, to a signing bonus worth 2.05 million.

Marrero was the 24th pick in this year's draft.

Teams are handling draft picks a little bit differently this year than they have in years past. Each pick has an assigned value, and each team has a certain amount of money they are allowed to use for draft picks' bonuses. Players taken after the tenth round cannot receive a signing bonus of more than 100,000.

The 24th pick this year was assigned a value of 1.75 million. Marrero's signing leaves Boston 331,700 over the assigned values for its signees in the first 10 rounds, according to Callis.
