The Red Sox -- according to a post on Twitter by ESPN's Jim Bowden, a former major-league GM -- are attempting to work out a one-year deal with Mike Napoli, down from the three-year, 39 million deal the sides agreed to in December.
According to Bowden:
"Red Sox would like to shorten their deal with Napoli to one-year to make sure the hip will be ok for 2 or 3 seasons without a lot of DL time"
A physical problem -- presumed to be a hip condition -- arose during Napoli's medical examination. CSNNE's Mike Giardi has confirmed that the Red Sox are looking into acquiring the Nationals' Michael Morse to solve their first-base problems.
