Report: Ortiz loses appeal, will sit out Friday's game

According to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford, David Ortiz has lost the appeal of the one-game suspension he received for bumping an umpire on April 19 and will be forced to sit out the Red Sox' Friday night's game at Toronto.

Toronto is starting a right-hander, Aaron Sanchez, tonight, which means the Sox lineup will be further depleted (assuming Hanley Ramirez is still unable to play). Had Ortiz dropped the appeal when he was unlikely to play anyway, such as when Boston was facing a tough left-hander, the impact of Ortiz' absence could have been lessened.
