Crawford has said numerous times that the surgery is inevitable. It remains to be seen if the team will allow him to undergo the procedure.

Since returning from the disabled list, Crawford has hit .287 with 3 home runs and 19 RBI for the Red Sox.

UPDATE 3:00pm:

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told the media that Crawford hasn't talked to him yet about possibly having surgery.

Cherington said Crawford hasn't talked to team about TJ surgery: "He's trying to help the team. It's a situation we're monitoring." Sean McAdam(@Sean_McAdam) August 18, 2012
He also made it clear that the team's performance has nothing to do when Crawford will undergo the surgery.

Cherington added that team's standing won't impact decision on TJ surgery w Crawford; player's well being will be only factor. RedSoxTalk Sean McAdam(@Sean_McAdam) August 18, 2012
