Mookie Betts was activated and will make his return to the lineup tonight, but that’s not the only transaction the Boston Red Sox made today.

In addition to closer Koji Uehara being placed on the disabled list with a wrist fracture, pitcher Justin Masterson was designated for assignment and infielder Deven Marrero was optioned to make room for relievers Ryan Cook and Tommy Layne.

Cook was acquired by the Red Sox at the deadline and has a career 2.93 ERA, but he was shelled in four appearances with Oakland earlier this season.

Layne, a left-handed reliever, appeared in 40 games for the Red Sox, notching 32 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.

The Red Sox face off against the Miami Marlins tonight at 7:10 PM.
