DETROITThe Red Sox game against the Tigers Saturday night was called because of rain. The teams will play two games Sunday, at 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m.

Right-hander Clay Buchholz and Tigers lefty Andy Oliver will start the early game. Right-handers Josh Beckett and Justin Verlander will start the later game.

Playing a doubleheader Sunday was the best of the available options, manager Terry Francona said.

I hope we play, said manager Terry Francona. I know that Sunday's weathers a little iffy also, but I think were OK.

We talked about whats in everybodys best interest and we dont want to come back Thursday an off-day. If the Tigers play Thursday, its like 38 in a row. There was some talk of coming back during the All-Star break. Theres some options that werent real tantalizing. I think we thought were here, lets play.

With the scheduled off-day on Thursday, playing a doubleheader on Sunday would not cause any problems with the starting rotation.
