Red Sox option Barnes, recall reliever Aro

BOSTON - The Red Sox made a roster change with their pitching staff Sunday -- and announced an update to their starting rotation for their upcoming series in Chicago.

The Sox optioned Matt Barnes, who made his second of two starts for the Red Sox in a losing effort Saturday, and recalled reliever Jonathan Aro from Pawtucket.

Aro will be available out of the bullpen for the next few days, at which time he'll presumably be returned to Pawtucket to make room for the activation of Rick Porcello.

Interim manager Torey Lovullo announced that Porcello will start Wednesday in Chicago.

Porcello has been sidelined with a right triceps strain since July 30.

He made a rehab start for Pawtucket Friday night and is ready to come off the DL.

Joe Kelly will start the series opener Monday, followed by Wade Miley and Porcello. Following a Thursday off-day, that means the Sox will throw two young lefties -- Henry Owens and Eduardo Rodriguez in the first two games at Citi Field against the New York Mets next weekend.
