Red Sox make several minor league staff moves

Rich Gedman, a local boy made good -- for a while, anyway -- with the Red Sox, is back with the Boston organization.

The Sox announced Monday that Gedman, a two-time All-Star during his 10 years as a catcher for Boston, is rejoining the team as the hitting coach for Class A Lowell in the short-season New York-Penn League.

It was one of a series of announcements made by the Sox, who also hired ex-major leaguer Chili Davis as the hitting coach at Triple-A Pawtucket. In addition, Boston:

-- Named Mike Murov as an assistant in the Baseball Operations department.
-- Hired Tom Allison as a regional crosschecking scout in the Midwest; ex-big league pitcher Jon Adkins as an area scout in the Ohio Valley, and ex-big league first baseman Chris Pritchett as an area scout in Canada.
-- Named ex-big league infielder Andy Fox as the organization's minor league infield coordinator.
-- Named John Lombardo and ex-big leaders Nate Field and Hal Morris as pro scouts.
-- Hired Victor Rodriguez Jr., son of the Red Sox minor league hitting coordinator, as a scout in the Dominican Republican.
-- Named Basilio Alvarado as Dominican Summer League catching coach and Oscar Lira as Dominican Summer League assistant pitching coach.
