Red Sox lineup will have different look Wednesday

OAKLAND -- With an afternoon game set for Wednesday at O.co Coliseum, the Red Sox will have a different look to their lineup for the series finale.

With righthander Sonny Gray pitching for Oakland, John Farrell plans to have Brock Holt play shortstop over Xander Bogaerts, with Daniel Nava at first as Mike Napoli sits and Jackie Bradley Jr. in right as Shane Victorino rests.

Holt hasn't played on the road trip yet, a function of being away from the team for the first two games in Toronto due a death in the family.

Holt rejoined the Sox Sunday at Rogers Centre, but didn't see playing time then, or in the first game of the series here Monday night.

His last seven starts have come in right field, but with Victorino back and playing against lefties, Holt sat Monday and Tuesday.

Bradley came into the game in the late innings Monday as the Red Sox didn't want to push Victorino too far in his first game back in the big leagues in almost three weeks.

Nava is the midst of one of the longest slumps of his career, hitless over his last 20 at-bats before Tuesday night. Before Tuesday night, he had just two at-bats in the first four games of the current road trip.

The demotion of Allen Craig over the weekend means that Nava is now the primary backup first baseman to Napoli, though Farrell said Nava could still get some playing time in the outfield.
