The Red Sox are close to signing Taiwanese short stop Tzu-Wei Lin of Taiwan, according to reports. Lin probably isn't going to do all that much damage at the dish with his power, but he was ranked 18th out of this year's top 20 international prosepcts back in April, according to MLB.com.
From Hardball Talk:
Lin, a left-handed hitter, was rumored to be signing with the Yankees in 2010, but at 16 then, Taiwan declared him too young to turn pro. Now 18, he's set to receive a bonus about six times as great as the one the Yankees were set to give him.
Here's a scouting video of Lin in case you haven't seen him. We assume you haven't.

Bob Ryan and Lou Merloni react to Matt Barnes being handed a 4-game suspension for throwing at Manny Machado, and whether he deserved it.
MLB has suspended and fined Boston Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes for throwing at the head of Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado. Barnes' suspension will last four games. His fine is an undisclosed amount.
Barnes has elected to appeal, and so his suspension will be postponed until the appeal process has finished.
Barnes' throw at Machado appeared to be a response to the Orioles third baseman's decision to slide cleats up into Pedroia, who left the game and has missed the two games that followed. He's still day-to-day. However, Pedroia vocally disapproved of Barnes' decision.
