BOSTON - Major League Baseball and the Boston Red Sox announced their 2016 season on Tuesday, and the Red Sox are going to begin things in the same city they'll end the 2015 season.

Boston will open its 2016 season in Cleveland on Monday, April 4. It's the sixth straight season the Sox will open their season on the road.

After a weekend series in Toronto, the team will hold its home opener on Monday, April 11 against the Orioles. It's the beginning of a 10-game homestand, all against A.L. East teams.

The Red Sox play their first series against the Yankees at home, beginning on Friday, April 29.

They will host four interleague teams in 2016, the Atlanta Braves from April 27-28, the Colorado Rockies from May 24-26, the San Francisco Giants from July 19-20, and the Arizona Diamondbacks from August 12-14.

They will also play the Giants (June 7-8), Los Angeles Dodgers (August 5-7), and San Diego Padres (September 5-7) on the road.

Fenway Park will be busy next summer, as the Sox have 13 home games in June, 18 home games in July, and 12 home games in August. They begin a nine-game homestand on July 1 with a three-game series against the Angels, a 4th of July game -- followed by two more -- against the Rangers, and a three-game series against the Rays before the All-Star break.

The longest road trip for the Sox comes near the trade deadline, as the team heads to Los Angeles on Thursday, July 28 for a four-game series against the Angels before traveling to Seattle for four games and then back to L.A. to play the Dodgers for three more.

The other West Coast trip comes in the beginning of September and takes the Sox through Oakland and San Diego before they finish up in Toronto.

The team plays its least amount of home games in September/October (10), but finishes the season at Fenway with a three-game series against the Jays.
