As the next wave of young pitching makes it way towards Boston, there's a comfort for the Red Sox in knowing there's a veteran core -- Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, John Lackey, Jake Peavy -- in place to show the youngsters the ropes and prevent the Sox from having to depend entirely on young, inexperienced arms.
The youngsters themselves, like Anthony Ranaudo, are comforted by that, too.
"They've laid a good foundation for us, for the younger guys that are coming through," Ranaudo told Comcast SportsNet's Mike Giardi, adding: "I'm just trying to follow in their footsteps. They've done a great job and kind of opened our eyes to realize that the opportunity is there, and you just keep working hard. And eventually, hopefully, if you keep doing the right things, hopefully in the end it will pay off."
