"If you were looking for Big Foot, I've found him. He's at Red Sox spring training."
That's Comcast SportsNet's Mike Giardi's description of 6-foot-7 left-hander Henry Owens, 21 years old and possessor of a size 17 shoe. But he impresses for more than his size.
How about a career 34-11 record in 62 minor-league games spread over three seasons? Winner of a Carolina League All-Star berth in 2013? Not to mention Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors in the same season?
Need more? How about 19 1/3 consecutive no-hit innings in Salem last year?
About the only person not impressed by all this is Owens himself.
"I still have a lot to learn," he told Giardi in a one-on-one interview.
And those consecutive no-hit innings?
"I kind of put it behind me once I got promoted (to Double-A Portland in midseason)," he said. "It was fun while it lasted but, again, that's last year."
