Friday was a frustrating night for everyone in the Red Sox organization.
The disappointment of a prolonged offensive slump seemed evident.
In particular, David Ortiz vented displeasure with what he deemed an overly onerous schedule. The Red Sox wrapped up a West Coast road trip on Wednesday, had a day off on Thursday, and then continued their road trip on the East Coast on Friday against the Yankees.
The Sox have dropped six of their last eight games, and now sit at 36-44, eight games behind the Toronto Blue Jays.
Asked if he thought it was time for the Red Sox to bring in a player from outside the organization, Ortiz, in an exasperated tone, deferred to Ben Cherington.
"I don’t know, man… our GM is somewhere around here. Ask him. I’m just a player."
