BALTIMORE -- Jonny Gomes was in the starting lineup for the Red Sox on Wednesday night after sitting on the bench Monday in the season opener.

Gomes was in left field, with Daniel Nava in right.

"Just looking at how right-handers have fared against Ubaldo [Jimenez, Baltimore's starter],'' said John Farrell, "over the course of his career, over last year, and Jonny's individual performance against him. That's what gone into this -- and another chance to try to get everybody some action as we come out of spring training.''

Gomes entered Wednesday night's game hitting .417 (5-for-12) against Jiminez, with two homers and five RBI.

Shane Victorino, who was placed on the disabled list Monday, is in Baltimore, but is restricted to the team hotel as he battles the flu.

"He's been able to get treatment [for his strained right hamstring] while at the hotel,'' said Farrell. "[He'd] be getting treatment only, anyway (if he was at the park). So we wanted to keep him out of the clubhouse and not spread what he's dealing with.''

The Red Sox have extended invitations to every player from the 2013 roster to the pregame ceremony Friday afternoon, during which World Series rings will be distributed. Included are players on other active rosters -- such as Jarrod Saltalamacchia (Marlins) and Jacoby Ellsbury (Yankees) -- as well as those not currently affiliated with other teams.

The Sox have received a response from Ryan Dempster, who is taking the year off and plans to attend. They are unsure of whether Stephen Drew will make it. Drew remains an unsigned free agent.
