Throughout the season, the Red Sox have been getting runners on base, but have been unable to bring them home when it matters most.
Red Sox Insider Sean McAdam and The Baseball Show panel discussed whether or not help is on the horizon for the Sox.
"Short term, I don't know if there are any obvious answers," said McAdam. "There are a couple of guys who are working their way back to the big leagues in Shane Victorino and Will Middlebrooks."
Although the Red Sox will be getting the duo back on the field soon, McAdam isn't convinced their returns can turn things around.
"Victorino is more of an energy guy who will improve outfield defense, certainly, and baserunning. But isn't necessarily a guy that's going to turn games around.
"Middlebrooks, even though he has that terrific, raw right-handed power that he's put to use at times, hasn't done it consistently. Counting on him and finding out where he's going to be, that's a whole other issue. Look, this isn't easily fixed."
