McAdam: Chapman contract may limit Red Sox offer

According to a report that emerged on Thursday, the Boston Red Sox are believed to be “aggressive” in their pursuit of Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman.

Red Sox Insider Sean McAdam joined SportsNet Central to discuss the possibility of Boston adding Chapman’s 100-plus-mph fastball to their bullpen.

“There’s no arguing that Chapman is a dominant reliever, probably the most dominant guy in the game along with Craig Kimbrel - a guy the Red Sox also discussed last July with San Diego,” said McAdam. “The one negative is that he’s only under control until the end of 2016. So the Red Sox would be getting just one year of Chapman unless they work out some sort of extension immediately or some time during the season. That may limit what the Red Sox are willing to give up.”
