After a flurry of activity last week, the Winter Meetings were kind of quiet for general manager Ben Cherington and the Red Sox. Red Sox insider Sean McAdam caught up with Cherington as the meetings wrapped up in Orlando, Fla.

"There was a lot of work and conversation, but not much activity [this week]," Cherington said. "We're going to continue to work in the off-season to add depth."

The Red Sox are viewed as a team with starting pitching depth, with six potential starters in Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, John Lackey, Felix Doubront, Jake Peavy and Ryan Dempster. Cherington said it's a good position to be in.

"You look on the internet and the news that surrounds teams is that they're looking for starting pitching," he said. "Because of our depth, we want to be very careful not to do anything to disrupt that."

Cherington said the "door is open" for free agent shortstop Stephen Drew to potentially return to the Red Sox. He said conversations are continuing, but the Sox feel good about the development of Xander Bogaerts to take over as the everyday shortstop.
