Will the Daisuke Matsuzaka experience lead the Red Sox to shy away from Masahiro Tanaka, the latest Japanese pitching sensation?
Steve Buckley of the Boston Herald hopes not.
"I'd like them to sign him because based on what we've heard he's a very good pitcher," Buckley said on Uno Sports Tonight.
Buckley said the Red Sox's current surplus of starting pitching will likely be depleted through a trade or two, opening up a spot for Tanaka, whom Major League teams began bidding on Thursday.
"I just want him to be entertaining," Buckley said. "And Dice-K was not. He went 2-and-0 on every batter."
Co-host Bob Neumeier differed on the entertainment factor, recalling that Matsuzaka was treated "like a rock star" when he first arrived in Boston. "His first few games, it was like the Beatles coming to Boston."
