Rays pitcher Chris Archer wasn't pleased when David Ortiz stood back and admired his three-run home run and then flipped his bat.
"I don't know what makes him think he can showboat like that,'' fumed Archer after the game
Archer and the Rays may have had a problem with Ortiz's actions, but Steve Buckley is perfectly okay with it.
"I don't have a problem with this because baseball players have been showboating for forty years," said Buckley. "When I was in high school Reggie Jackson was showboating after hitting home runs like that. I don't see a big deal. Baseball needs more guys like that."
"This is not new, some guys reach a certain plateau where that becomes part of their established repertoire during a game," continued Buckley. "I have a lot of problems with David Ortiz. Whining about scorekeeper's calls, travel schedules, all of that drives me crazy… The styling on the home runs, doesn't bother me a bit."
