BOSTON - The Red Sox will soon have too many pitchers for their 12-man staff, with Brandon Workman and Rubby De La Rosa both pitching well and Clay Buchholz and Felix Doubront close to returning to the big league club.

"It's a good problem to have,'' said Cherington, "to have a lot of pitchers who are capable of helping us. We have to get there and see where we are. We're waiting on a number of things. We're waiting on Workman's suspension and how that plays out. We're waiting on how Buch does in his next outing. We just have to wait on some things before we make any decisions.

''If we have tough decisions or tough conversations....I'll take those tough conversations as opposed to the alternative of not having tough decisions (to make).''

Cherington was asked if Doubront, Workman or De La Rosa could help in the Boston bullpen.

"We wouldn't rule anything out,'' he said. "The other guys have done that. They're also all capable of starting, so we have to balance that stuff and just see where we are a few days from now.''
