BOSTON — The Celtics will be short-handed tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats with Jared Sullinger out with a bruised right knee.

The 6-foot-9 forward sustained the injury against Orlando on Monday, and had an MRI the following day which showed no structural damage.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Sullinger is being listed as day-to-day.

"He's got the bruised knee and obviously he's not feeling 100 percent running or jumping off of it," Stevens said. "So it's a great opportunity for someone else to step up and play a key role for us."

Filling that void for Sullinger will be Kris Humphries, who has played sparingly this season.

In four games, Humphries has come off the Celtics bench and averaged 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds while playing 11 minutes per game.

The absence of Sullinger comes at a time when the second-year big man seemed to be rounding into a reliable contributor off the bench.

In seven games, Sullinger has averaged 11.3 points and 5.1 rebounds. Sullinger was a major player in Boston's 120-105 victory over the Magic on Monday, scoring 14 points off the bench on 7-for-9 shooting, to go with five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.
