Current Celtic assistant and former C's fan - and Tommy Heinsohn - favorite Walter McCarty has let it be known he's interested in the head coaching vacancy at Boston College.
On Celtics Pregame Live Wednesday night, Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix said McCarty "is in the field of candiates" for the BC job.
McCarty won a national championship as a player at Kentucky, spent time as an assistant under Rick Pitino with Louisville and as an assistant for the Pacers for one season.
What can I tell ya, I love Waltah!" Heinsohn said of Pregame Live, when asked about McCarty, echoing his familiar refrain from when McCarty would make a big play in his Celtics playing days. "And BC people should love him, too."
"He has spoken to BC athletic director Brad Bates," Mannix said of McCarty. "He has several people lobbying on his behalf. Walter's pitch is that he can recruit on a level no other BC coach ever has. BC has done its research on Mark Schmidt, the St. Bonaventure coach..."
Mannix added that rumored candidates Tommy Amaker of Harvard and Ed Cooley of Providence aren't that interested in the BC job. "There is a field of candidates and Walter McCarty is certainly in the middle of it."
