Shaquille O'Neal has agreed to participate in an unveiling of a statue of himself outside the new Louisiana State Practice facility, according to Sports by Brooks.
The LSU Athletic Department proposed the life-size statue in July 2010. It was recently completed and the school has given the department permission to erect the monument.
Since finishing his degree in 2000, Shaq has anonymously donated millions of dollars to his alma mater. According to Sports by Brooks, the center didn't want this kind of recognition, but has since relented.
The statue itself will be a 900-pound bronze monument depicting a younger Shaq dunking in his 33 LSU jersey.
LSU spokesman Herb Vincent confirmed the news today and stated that, as of now, the statue will be unveiled sometime during the off-season.
